Palaeontologist Anne Schulp is professor of vertebrate palaeontology at Utrecht University and researcher at Naturalis, the national natural history museum of the Netherlands in Leiden. In 2013, he excavated the skeleton of a large Tyrannosaurus rex, which now graces the new dinosaur gallery of Naturalis. The specimen preserves a number of interesting pathologies. And just as in human medicine and veterinary sciences, the application of a wide range of advanced x-ray imaging techniques came in helpful in the diagnosis of the T. rex' ailments, too. Anne Schulp will take you on a tour from the excavation and preparation of the specimen, to the research, and on to the final display of this spectacular skeleton.
